The night before Kindergarten

OK, let's just start by saying how fast the past 5 1/2 years have gone by. I can't believe that Molly will be starting kindergarten tomorrow. I think now I finally feel like an adult - I'm actually in charge of a school age child. It's hard for me to think about. This week has been a challenge - Charlie is gone to training school - he will miss the first day of school. I have to deal with this by myself - I'm feeling like a single parent this week - more than usual. Molly has been missing her father, she's constantly asking when he will be home - even though today it was a little easier because we spent he afternoon with Josh. Then she wanted him to come home with us and spend some time here.
Back to kindergarten:
My concerns/ annoyances so far:
  • no letter from Mrs. Gauld telling us what to expect the first day
  • no communication on what time to get on the bus, the bus number, what time to be to school, what to bring for snack or not bring, if breakfast is provided.
  • Should I drop her off myself
  • Should I volunteer my help
  • I feel like I should have been sent something to put me in the loop

I did call the school today and talked with the secretary - some of my questions were answered:

  1. The bus driver is Darlene (no bus # given)
  2. Be waiting outside at 7:35
  3. Or drop off between 7:40 and & 8:00
  4. Kids have a morning recess, school starts at 8
  5. More than welcome to drop Molly off myself

Molly has been going back and forth about taking the bus or me taking her. I would love to take her - but I don't know how she will do with me leaving her there. She did go to preschool last year - and had a hard time with me leaving. So she should be used to it - I hope.

I see her being upset that I have to leave. I see her being very shy. The morning is going to be rough - she has to shower, eat breakfast and get dressed before 7:30. I plan on waking her up around 6:00. Is this too early - I'm glad Charlie's not here. He is not a morning person.

She was in bed at 8:00 - read Barbie's first pony, Mater and the Ghost Light and Mickey's fun day. She stayed in her bed - it was 8:10 when I turned off the light. She is sleeping - let's hope she gets enough and won't be cranky in the morning.
